Healing from Childhood Sexual Abuse: A Path to RecoveryMany adults who have endured childhood sexual abuse face long-standing challenges, including mental health struggles like depression, anxiety, and self-harm, as well as debt, broken relationships, and loneliness. Often, the abuse was inflicted by individuals within their community, such as religious leaders, teachers, or coaches. More commonly, however, the abuse occurs within the home, perpetrated by trusted family members like parents, grandparents, elder siblings, or uncles. This environment allows the abuse to happen covertly during moments of care, like bath time, bedtime stories, or babysitting, and in some cases, involves multiple family members.Abuse can escalate from inappropriate touching to more severe forms of sexual assault, often continuing for years with no escape. Despite a common misconception, not all survivors of childhood sexual abuse become abusers themselves. Instead, many struggle to form the emotional bonds necessary for relationships, sometimes isolating themselves from society.Through this course, the aim is to provide a supportive and nurturing space for survivors and to help them to move to the next step of their healing journey. With this deeper personal understanding, and by accessing therapies such as counseling, and practical support, participants can learn to come to terms with their past experiences and address the impact of the abuse they endured.
