In this course, the students will learn details on therapeutic communication and interview skills. For health care providers, good communication means approaching every patient interaction with the intention to understand the patient's concerns, experiences, and opinions. This includes using verbal and nonverbal communication skills, along with active listening and patient teach-back techniquesTherapeutic communication is an important part of patient care which increases patients' participation in their care and accelerates their recovery through patient education. This process improves patient satisfaction through listening and conveying information.In therapeutic communication, the students will learn its definition, goals of therapeutic communication, functions of a health care professional in therapeutic interaction, the purpose of therapeutic communication, components of therapeutic communication, characteristics of therapeutic communication, types of therapeutic communication, communication skills, therapeutic communication skills, therapeutic communication techniques and reasons of ineffective communication.During the interview observation of the process, both verbal and nonverbal, provides important information about the patient as a person. Through the patient's behavior during the interview (e.g., facial expressions, posture, gestures) he or she communicates emotional concerns, reactions to illness, and style of relating to others.In interview skills, the students will learn its definition, guidelines for interviewing, I interview skills, the purpose of the interview, the basic principle of understanding human nature, stages of an interview, essential conditions needed for conducting an interview, attitude of an interviewer, some do's and don'ts while conducting an interview.
