Short circuit analysis is for protection of life and property. The course includes the exercises on short circuit current calculation according to IEC 60909. Industrial standards are crucial and primary documents in terms of scientific assessments.Rather than definitions, theory and history of short circuit issue, the exercises consisting of basic concept are handled in the course content. The variety of exercises could be improved over time if needed. The course has mainly focused on manual or hand calculation of short circuit current by using Excel and the comparison of computing results by ETAP software. Excel is preferred to explain or to show the content due to its feature. At first, the intention before creating the course was to know how the simulation software computes short circuit currents. Then, it is the question what if without software in case of large networks. In some conditions during tasks or studies, there could be a need to control and see deviations between manual calculated values and the results of the simulation software. Or maybe just curiosity to learn the basics of what you're studying. It is true that manual calculation is tedious work, and for the most of times no need for hand calculation.
