Dr. Maria Montessori observed that a child in the first six years of life has a mind that functions differently from that of an adult. This mind absorbs vast amount of information including language from the environment without any effort on the part of the child; and she called this mind the ‘Absorbent Mind'.The Absorbent Mind works together with what Montessori identified as Sensitive Period. Maria Montessori described the sensitive period as certain periods of time which appears to be the most favorable ones for creating and refining a particular human characteristic such as Language.
