Paper clay usually refers to a type of air dry clay which has had a cellulose base added to it, like in the case of the Ultra Light Clay. The result is that the clay is very lightweight when it dries. This is important because the clay then doesn't need to support it's own weight in addition to anything else. It is this weight that is a big decider in fragility. Most of the shaping can be done using the fingers. When you need to create details, the most effective tools are metal and wooden ceramic or pottery tools. You can easily make your own shape cutters for air dry clay miniatures. The miniature cutters are all made from recycled heavy tin foil. For some air dry clay projects, you can make tools from stamps, beads, or other items you find around the house. Miniature foods often need texturing tools you can purchase or make yourself from clay, beads, or found items. It is up to you if you choose to use one or the other type of clay, according to the items you want to create. In the end though it's about finding what works best for you and your working method. Experiment and don't be afraid to try different materials and methods, that's what making art is all about.
