Leading a small group discussion can be challenging, and we've all seen it done badly. Either the discussion ends up completely off topic or that one person just won't stop talking. Sometimes people just won't say anything at all, and the group stops making any kind of progress. Not only that, but we also tend to put tremendous pressure on ourselves as leaderships, typically expecting ourselves to be perfect and have all the answers. In this class, learn the basics of facilitating a high-quality discussion that includes everyone without you or anyone else doing all the talking. This includes setup, setting a goal, and encouraging reserved people to speak up while encouraging outgoing people to give others a turn. Part of leadership is setting some rules, and we'll cover the best ones for most situations. Another part is leading by example, which includes taking some pressure off ourselves. Finally, we'll look at how to help if the group is stuck. Each step includes some guidelines and techniques to help you make the best decision for your specific situation to meet your own and your group's goals. Each section except the intro consists of a short video lesson with a way to check your understanding at the end.
