PRINCE2 project management is a process-based approach focusing on organization and control over the whole project, from start to finish. That means projects are skillfully planned before kickoff; each stage is structured throughout and closes when the project concludes. Prince 2 belongs to a family of waterfall methodologies such as APMP and PMP, which focuses on a sequential way of planning a project. The PRINCE methodology was initially developed in the late 1980s as a way for the U.K. government to manage IT projects. In 1996, a team of project management specialists and public and private organizations reviewed and updated the approach to make it more widely applicable to various industries.
