This course was created with a focus on the practicality of providing IV sedation for in-office procedures. I created this course because when I was first learning to do IV sedation, I couldn't really find resources that focused on how to actually start the IV sedation on patients from the moment they sat down in the chair and until they left the office. Most resources talked about pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics involving anesthesia but lacked that clinical connection for me.In this lecture, we will go over the followings:· Cover the basics and fundamentals of sedation practice that will keep you out of trouble· Go over the most common equipment used in sedation in the outpatient office setting.· Learn the common sedative medications used in the office and go over how and why they are used.· Discuss day of operations, including how to get an IV line, how to induce the patient, maintain and monitor the patient during the sedation and wake the patient up· Learn the common emergencies and how to handle them.· Go over variations of IV sedation practiceAt the end of this course, you will have good practical foundational knowledge on how to set up the office and start IV sedation in your office. It will also guide as a template upon which you can build your knowledge through additional studies and training.
