课程详情

Health care is a great concern today. Many people find it difficult to access due to barriers such as preexisting conditions and affordability, or are only able to access inferior care. The solution being actively pushed is Socialized medicine, but we have to ask if that is the best option. We will examine the benefits and problems associated with it. There are also other solutions available. Some suggest expanding the present government programs while others feel the free enterprise provides better solutions. We also face other problems in health care. One of the major problems is contagious diseases. There is debate about how to deal with them. Covid brought conflicting ideas and showed us that we were not well prepared to deal with it. Another epidemic we face is the threat of sexually transmitted diseases. One problem in health care involves organ transplants. While there are many who need them, there are few available, leading to the question of how to get them and who should have priority. Another problem is genetic engineering. While cloning people sounds like science fiction, the fact is that scientists have already cloned some animals. It is no longer a question of whether we can, but whether we should. We also have the question of invitro fertilization. While it can be very helpful for someone who can't have children of their own, it leaves a question of what we should do with those left over. Finally, we must face the question of determining when death has occurred. It is not always easy to determine if someone has died. In addition, we have to ask if we should end life support or terminate the life of those who are no longer capable of sustaining meaningful life.
