Welcome to Gyokko-ryu Kosshi-jutsu; the School of the Jewel Tiger. This is the oldest of the 9 schools in the Bujinkan organization.This is your initiation, introduction and intensive look at one of the oldest schools of traditional Japanese martial arts employed by both the ninja and samurai. GYOKKO RYU KOSSHI-JUTSU JORYAKU NO MAKI (SHODEN) is a complete self-contained self-defense course as developed in late 1400s Japan based on Chinese principles brought to Japan by Cho Gyokko. Your course instructor will teach you, the in-depth details necessary to master the 12 classical forms, and demonstrate strategies for modern street and field fighting based on the ancient principles of the Gyokko Ryu as taught by Soke Masaaki Hatsumi from the volume entitled, Unarmed Fighting Techniques of The Samurai. We will explore traditional Japanese terms such as kata, henka, and tekiyo and its impact on our understanding of self development with in our martial arts. You will learn the ABC's of Kata training, explore the 5 stages necessary for personal martial arts mastery, such as the importance of mental and spiritual focus, flexibility, the force of the deployed strike, the value of form, as well as factors like spacing and timing; and much more.
