Note:This is Continuation of FTII JET 2026 Screenwriting Exam Theory Practise Tests:1 course please refer both courses for maximum coverage of topics.The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Joint Entrance Test (JET) 2026 exam for Screenwriting (Film, TV & Web Series) offers aspiring writers a comprehensive foundation in the art and craft of storytelling for visual media admission into SRFTI and FTII. This course is meticulously designed to equip students with essential skills in script development, character creation, dialogue writing, and narrative structure. Participants will explore various formats, including feature films, television series, and web content, learning to adapt their storytelling techniques to different platforms and audiences.Through a combination of wide range of practical tests over the course topics, students will delve into the intricacies of genre, pacing, and theme, honing their unique voice as storytellers. Additionally, students will engage in collaborative projects, simulating real-world writing scenarios and enhancing their ability to work within a creative team.Course Structure:Screenwriting (Film, TV Web Series) & The course aims to train screenwriters to be efficient storytellers well conversant with all forms of cinematic writing. It employs a sixpronged approach that includes extensive writing with feedback at various developmental stages, study of relevant concepts, reading and discussion of significant texts, group analyses of films/series, creative writing exercises and introduction to professional aspects. Detailed, step by step feedback from internal faculty as well as guest mentors plays a key role in helping students develop their unique voice while also gaining a practical know-how of the craft. Hands-on experience of the digital film-making process, an introduction to film history and film appreciation, workshops on allied subjects (such as mythology, psychology, folklore etc.), and interactions with renowned academicians and industry professionals further enrich their understanding of cinematic storytelling. Over the course of two years students develop a robust portfolio of one Feature Film Screenplay, one TV/Web Bible, and one Feature Treatment along with several concept notes. In addition, they develop a Web Series Pitch Deck in a simulated Writer's Room with their classmates and an outside mentor, and numerous writing exercises that showcase their abilities. The course ends with a thorough practice of pitching and narrating these scripts to potential producers, thus making the students ready to plunge into professional life. Character Development: Creating believable characters, archetypes, motivation, arcs, character web, psychological depth. Dialogue and Subtext: Writing realistic/concise dialogue, advancing plot, subtext, tags/attribution.Visual Storytelling: Cinematic techniques, scene composition, showing vs. telling, symbolism, imagery.Technical Aspects: Tools and Standards Scriptwriting software, formatting standards, legal/copyright issues, revision/editing techniques.Basic Screenwriting Techniques: Classic Techniques: Syd Field's Paradigm (set-up, confrontation, resolution), McKee's story design (conflict, subtext).Beat Sheet (Blake Snyder): Opening image, theme stated, catalyst, midpoint, bad guys close in, all is lost, finale, final image.Advanced Techniques (John Truby): Moral argument, character web, world-building, integrating theme with structure.Famous Screenwriters: Nolan (nonlinear narratives), Tarantino (dialogue, nonlinear), Coen Brothers (unique storytelling).International Perspectives:Global TraditionsBollywood screenwriting, European art films, Asian cinema techniques.Story World Building:Creating Immersive Worlds: Setting, environment, societal/cultural context, fantasy/sci-fi world-building, integration with plot/character.Narrative Devices and Style:Devices: Foreshadowing, flashbacks, meta-narratives, fourth wall breaks, symbolism, imagery.Point of View (POV): First person, third person limited/omniscient, choosing the right POV.Voice and Style: Developing a unique voice, tone, mood, sentence structure, and word choice.Conflict and Tension Types of conflict, raising stakes, creating suspense.Ending Satisfying conclusions, open endings, avoiding deus ex machine.Practical Applications: Case Studies: Few Notable works like Pather Panchali, and other Great indian works,Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Blade Runner: narrative breakdown, story arcs, visual storytelling.Writing Process: Generating ideas, brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, overcoming writer's block, time management.Workshops and Exercises: Developing a screenplay from idea to draft, critiquing, peer review, collaborative techniques.Basics of Genre and Market Considerations: Genre Conventions: Understanding expectations, subverting conventions, adapting for screen, genre-specific techniques.
