Part IX of the Foundations in the Study of Magic lecture series marks the end of a triad of lectures that discuss and examine changes in the attitudes and practices of Western Esotericism in the late19th and early 20th centuries. In this lecture you will learn how Britain in the years after Barret's 1801 textbook The Magus interpreted traditional forms of magic in groups such as The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, but also how new forms were developed through the workings of Alister Crowley. In addition to a discussion of the British Influences to Occulture this lecture will explore European and Global currents taking shape in this period. Learn about the French priest turned occultist inspired by Barrett to develop his own theory of Magic. Hear about a new way of thinking developed in the 1900s that would shape New Age Discourse. Explore the cosmology of a philosophy trying hard not to be a religion with Theosophy. And as an added bonus this lecture will highlight some of the more obscure but highly influential and interesting figures of Western Esotericism in the world of Art; highlighting such figures as Hilma af Klint and A.O.
