This course explores the Vinča civilization, one of the oldest and most advanced in the world, which existed over 8,000 years ago in the territory of present-day Serbia. Vinča was known for its innovative settlements, sophisticated building techniques, artistic pottery, and rich symbolism. The course will focus on the daily life of the Vinča people, their social organization, and belief systems. We will examine how the Vinčans utilized natural resources, built their settlements, and developed advanced technologies far ahead of their time. A significant portion of the course will be dedicated to understanding Vinča's religious practices, symbols, and their deep connection with nature. We will explore their deities, especially those associated with fertility, agriculture, and the cycles of nature. The course also covers the artistic achievements of Vinča culture, such as intricate sculptures and pottery, which give us a glimpse into their worldview.
