Congenital Heart disease is one of the most tough subspecialties in cardiology. In this course, the study of congenital heart disease has been beautifully simplified, but without scarificing essential knowledge. You will find a well-structured and integrated course, which is so easy to go through. The course was classified into three sections. In section 1, a brief description is providede of the history taking and physical examination of the patient with suspected congenital heart disease, and the most important and unique features of pediatic electrocardiography. In section 2, you will find a discussion of the fetal circulation, complications of congenital heart disease, embryology, anatomy and pathology, followed by a detailed discussion of the systematic method of segmental analysis used in the differential diagnosis, surgical operations used for univentricular and biventricular repair of various anomalies, as well as catheter-based interventions. Surgical operations used for univentricular repair are applied for many anomalies including: Valvular anomalies such as Tricuspid atresia and severe form of Ebstein's anomaly, Pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum, Pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (VSD) and hypoplastic right ventricle, Critical pulmonary stenosis with hypoplastic right ventricle, Mitral atresia, Aortic atresia, Hypoplastic left heart syndrome. these operations are also used for the repair of Single ventricle physiology in the following conditions: Single ventricle, Double-outlet ventricle, Double-inlet ventricle, Unbalanced endocardial cushion defects, congenitally corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) unfit for biventricular repair, such as patients with straddling mitral or tricuspid valve, inaccessible or multiple ventricular septal defects, and also in many patients with the Heterotaxy syndrome. Many procedures, on the other hand are used for biventricular repair in cluding: Atrial switch operations (Mustard & Senning), Arterial switch operation of Jatene, Rastelli procedure, REV procedure, Nikaidoh procedure, righr ventricle-pulmonary artey conduit, and left ventricle pulmonary artey conduit. These last procedurse are applied for many congenital anomalies including: Complete TGA, Isolated ventricular inversion, Congenitally corrected TGA, double outlet right ventricle, double outlet left ventricle, Pulmonary atresia with VSD, and Persistent truncus arteriosus (PTA).In sections 3, a detailed study of indvidual anomalies is provided.
