In this course, you will complete brainstorming exercises that will help you pick the right topic to tell your authentic story. Through detailed analysis of two real student essays, you will develop an understanding of how to use a narrative style and sensory details to bring your story to life. Finally, you will get a chance to complete a sensory detail writing challenge that will get you started with the first draft of your Common App personal statement.Whether you already have a completed draft or have no idea what to write about, this class will help you write an exceptional Common App personal statement. In this workshop, you will learn how to avoid common mistakes and practice using "showing" instead of "telling" to add rich imagery to your application essay. This course is aimed at students who are applying to US colleges and universities; however, it is also relevant for teachers, parents/guardians, college consultants, and anyone else who guides students through their application essay processes.
