Welcome to the Building Inclusive and Accessible Cities Training Program, where we embark on a transformative journey into the world of inclusive urban development. Our training program is designed to foster peer-to-peer learning, harnessing the power of accessible online learning materials and compelling storytelling. It is firmly grounded in the six principles of the Global Compact on Inclusive and Accessible Cities. This global declaration aligns essential commitments with key international frameworks, including The Sustainable Development Goals, The New Urban Agenda, The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the WHO's Age Friendly Cities Framework.Principles at the Heart of Our Program:01 Non-discrimination In this module, we place particular emphasis on the "Leave No One Behind" principle. We actively address and condemn all forms of discrimination and barriers faced by individuals in vulnerable situations, with a special focus on persons with disabilities and older individuals. We progressively implement the principles of Accessibility, Universal Design, and the World Health Organization's Age Friendly Cities initiative throughout all urban development strategies.02 Accessibility Our program promotes the goal of enabling all individuals to live independently. We explore measures to facilitate access, eliminate barriers, and ensure full participation of persons with disabilities and older individuals, on an equal basis with others. This encompasses all aspects of the physical and digital environment in cities, including buildings, roads, transportation, and other indoor and outdoor facilities, as well as information, communications, and electronic services.03 Participation We champion the full and effective participation of all individuals, with a special focus on persons with disabilities and older individuals, in urban planning strategies. We emphasize stakeholder engagement at all stages of development, involving local authorities, community members, planners, and developers. Our aim is to eliminate institutional, legal, physical, and digital barriers to create truly inclusive urban spaces.04 Inclusive Urban Policies & Programs Our program actively promotes, adopts, and complies with international, regional, and national accessibility regulations and legal requirements. We emphasize the importance of inclusive management frameworks and accountable institutions in urban governance, with a focus on community-based planning.05 Capacity Building We are committed to developing and deploying capacity development initiatives that empower and strengthen the skills and abilities of all individuals and civil society organizations. We emphasize inclusivity and the recognition of the unique strengths of organizations of persons with disabilities and older persons. Through this, we shape inclusive governance processes, engage in dialogue, and actively promote equity while protecting human rights in urban and territorial development decision-making.06 Data for Development Our program actively supports the role and enhanced capacity of national, subnational, and local governments and relevant stakeholders. We prioritize the development, generation, and dissemination of reliable and timely disaggregated data. This data, which includes sex, age, disability, income, migration status, geographic location, and other relevant characteristics, helps us systematically understand and address barriers to inclusion and accessibility in cities faced by all individuals, with a particular focus on persons with disabilities and older persons.Join us on this remarkable journey towards building cities that are inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all. Let's work together to create urban environments that reflect the values of equality, accessibility, and human rights.Enroll today and be part of the change!
