The world needs a better battery, and that battery could be an aluminum air battery. These experimental batteries have a lot to offer, but they also have a lot of problems. In this introductory course I explore the details of this interesting battery chemistry as well as demonstrate what I did to build my own aluminum air battery.I start by explaining how these batteries work as well as the major challenges that need to be overcome to bring them to the mass market. Then I move on to discussing the major components of the battery with a focus on materials available to the everyday consumer. Along the way I'll highlight some of the scientific advances made that attempt to address some of the batteries shortfalls. Then for those who like to get their hands dirty. I conclude with a hands on section that teaches how to build these batteries step by step. This will include a custom designed solid electrolyte and 3D printable battery housing only available with this course.Graduates of this course will not only be able to explain how this battery works, but they will also be able to build their own.
