Collaborate with Penn faculty and fellow learners to identify the Top 10 Social Policy Issues facing the newly elected US President and Congress.
Make your voice heard in the first 100 days of the new Presidential Administration and Congress.
Tap into the knowledge and ideas of the renowned University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2) faculty to examine the most pressing social justice and policy issues facing the United States. Connect with fellow learners to collaborate on other issues that may be impacting your life, your community, or the nation as a whole. Together, create a list of priorities for the newly elected President and Congress.
The Top 10 Social Issues for the President’s First 100 Days course - based on the SP2 Top 10 Initiative - is a collaborative learning project. The course offers access to some of the greatest minds in social policy and their work. You will also have the chance to put forward your ideas and hear from others about what they think.
The academic experts tied to this course offer arguments about how we should envision our collective social policy/justice landscape given research that they or their colleagues have conducted on crucial social issues. Some of these issues, like gun control, are already mainstays of our national political conversation. Others, like debates about how best to care for our youngest and most vulnerable citizens, deserve more discussion than they currently receive. Ultimately, you have to decide for yourself what issues are most important to you. That’s part of what democracy is.
The course is self-paced and designed to start on Inauguration Day (January 20, 2017) and run for the first 100 days (ending May 1). There is no straight path through the course; you will create your own learning plan. We offer our faculty and their research for your consideration and discussion, but it is you who has to decide to engage. It is time to put the 2016 election behind us, come together and share ideas.
Special Opportunity for Verified Certificate Learners: The first 300 verified learners will receive a copy of the recently published volume Social Policy and Social Justice featuring essays by course faculty and published in November 2016 by the University of Pennsylvania Press; there will be no additional cost beyond the fee for the verified certificate.
