This course covers management of all kinds of orthopedic trauma. Hence, the range spans from multiple injury management following standardized ATLS criteria via general fracture therapy up to hand and soft tissue trauma. The aim of this course is to provide young residents, medical students, nurses, EMTs and paramedics with the basic knowledge of orthopedic trauma management by means of a clearly standardized and systematic approach. It follows most recent scientific ways of teaching by combination of short theoretical sections presenting essential information followed by short film sections demonstrating the practical skills and repetitive recall and test sections to anchor the achieved knowledge.
Week one: Multiple Trauma and Common Fracture Treatment
Week two: Clavicle Fractures and Humerus Head Fractures
Week three: Humerus Shaft Fractures and Olecranon Fractures
Week four: Distal Radius Fractures and Proximal Femur Fractures
Week five: Femur Shaft Fractures and Proximal Tibia Fractures
Week six: Ankle Joint Fractures and Extensor Digitorum Avulsions
Week seven: Scaphoid Fractures and Metacarpal Fractures
Week eight: Spine Fractures and Pelvic Fractures
Week nine: Thoracic Stabbing Wounds and Incised Wounds / Wound Suture
Week ten: Bite wounds and Burn / Freezing Injuries
Week eleven: Traumatic Brain Injury

This course covers a broad basic knowledge and skills in orthopedic trauma. The course follows a completely new concept of information transfer. We used a scientific approach to create a sophisticated combination of modern teaching tools, such as case-based learning, comprehensive facts followed by quiz-like question parts that help recalling the learned facts.
