How can managers and leaders respond effectively to patient, client and community concerns and demands, while managing a highly skilled and mobile workforce, all within organisational, regulatory, budgetary and political constraints?
This course will look at these questions from the perspective of healthcare leaders and managers, practitioners and patients, and consider what the latest theory, practice and opinion leaders tell us about how to ensure a safe, efficient and equitable healthcare service.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
Module one – Welcome and overview
Module two – Managing healthcare
Module three – Leadership theory
Module four – What makes a great health leader?
Module five – Leading individuals
Module six – Leading teams
Module seven – Leading organisations
Module eight – Conclusion
We look in detail at the history of management and leadership theories in general and then consider what it means to lead and manage within a healthcare context. How is this different or similar to management and leadership in other industries?
