This course will explore greening the economy on four levels – individual, business, city, and nation. We will look at the relationships between these levels and give many practical examples of the complexities and solutions at each level. Lessons learned in Scandinavia, a pioneering place to advance green economies, are a unique starting point for learning about greening the economy. We will learn from many initiatives attempted in Scandinavia since the 1970s - some successful, some not - but all potentially useful for other countries and contexts.
The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University is an international centre of excellence for sustainability strategies. IIIEE is ideally suited to understand and explain green economies as interdisciplinary issues utilising the diverse disciplinary background of its international staff.
Each week will focus on a different level in relation to Greening the Economy:
Week 1. Introduction: what is a green economy?
Week 2. Individual choices
Week 3. Business strategies
Week 4. Sustainable cities
Week 5. National policiesHow do we live a good life on one planet with seven billion people? This course addresses this question by looking into how individual consumption choices, business strategies, sustainable cities and national policies can promote a greener economy.
